A converted chapel hunt...

One of the girls at work mentioned a lovely old chapel they had found on their travels, that had been converted into a coffee shop, and did rather good cakes...

Mmmmmm we thought sounds good. Now all we knew was that it was near St Anthony in Meneage and Helford and there was a foot ferry crossing nearby and the car park had picnic benches and overlooked the Helford river.

and so, after Sally-Ann and Mike arrived with OS map in hand, we headed off in the general direction of where we thought it may be.


after a false start once we had reached St Anthony, and found that it was not the right place, we headed off to Helford for a visit and a walk with the dogs

The streets are beautiful, narrow and winding and the ford crosses the river that leads down to the main estuary that joins the sea

we crossed the ford and wandered up the far lane towards the walk that leads to the quay where the foot passengers can meet the ferry

the scenery was beautiful...

we rested at the quay and had a wander on the rocks

Fred and Hamish enjoyed themselves down by the waters edge.

Then we had a slow wander back to the car..... Fred wondered what Hamish was doing up there when there was a perfectly good puddle to wander through..

and then we were back at the car park - and yes it was the right one - we had found our Nirvana for that day - the converted chapel.

we stopped and had our picnics and allowed Fred and Hamish to get a fuss off of a passing dog lover

and then started driving back towards the lizard

clicking away from the car as we drove past some interesting spots for visiting on future jaunts

Sally-Ann and Mike brought along their national trust passes and we parked up at Kynance Cove to walk the dogs once more and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We have been here for a little over two years now and we still cannot believe there are place like this on our doorstep within a 40 minute drive from home!

We walked along the high tide coastal path and looked down on the coffee shop 300 feet below us - well of course we went down - tea and scones were calling our names!

then it was the long climb back up to the car and a photo opportunity and chance to update our MX-5 owners club profile picture

we had a wonderful day and our faces were certainly glowing from all of the sunshine by the time we got in tonight.

Timeline Confusion

I have always been behind the times, felt out of place in the current age, and even when I was 10 or 11 used to say I should have been a child in the 40's and 50's.

I know this is all very confusing, what with my likes of forensic anthropology and digital cameras and all things 21st century, but put a Deanna Durbin movie on the TV, or just mention the name Audrey Hepburn, or Fred and Ginger and I'm there glued to the box.

Is it the glamour and chicness of the women (and even men) that I love, or the general apparent naivety of people in those decades that I love - Who knows! Maybe is is because everything seemed to be so much easier then - there were no grey areas.

When I was just 10 or 11 I decide that Gene Kelly was the man of my dreams and that If I could dance like that, with him, I would die and go to heaven the happiest little girl in the world! Is that right for a child of that age living in 1978? Well if you know me, dear readers, you would just accept it and say - it's OK it's only Jo!

and while Gene, Fred and Ginge wowed me with their dancing, Audrey showed me what it was to possess incredible charm and poise

now I'm not sure that I actually manage to achieve any of that myself - in fact family and friends would laugh at this, but she is my ultimate hero!

Anniversary Meal

As Paul has been on nights for the last couple of weeks, it was not possible to go for a special meal yesterday, so we decided on tonight instead.

Sally-Ann and Mike also have a wedding anniversary today, so it was a double celebration.

We went off to The Plume in Scorrier, only to find it ram packed - we managed to get the last table - YAY!

A lovely evening followed, where we were able to catch up on the news of their holiday in Norfolk, and the visits with their old friends.

The evening finished with everyone coming back to ours to inspect the work on the kitchen so far.

I think they were quite impressed ..... but there is still a lot to do.

We decided to have this weekend off completely and have a day out tomorrow and try to find a converted chapel, that was now a coffee shop, in the middle of no-where, that we had no real directions for, but had been told was a nice visit.

Sally-Ann got out the OS map and we made a plan of action, beginning in the morning at 10.30am.

On This Day in History....

17 years ago today we got married - In fact just as today is a Thursday, so was this day in history... here are a few of my happy memories of the day, courtesy of the wonderful scrap blog pages and their great layouts....

Aya - You are Great!

I have just finished watching Aya at Strawberry Koi, presenting a tutorial on how to do 1940's pin curls.

She makes everything look so easy, and I shall certainly be having a go following her hints and tips.

I shall perhaps give this a go at the weekend. Pictures to follow ..... Maybe!

New Design? Part Deux

OK so it isn't the 1940/50's inspired look I was hoping for, (see Mama Syder, Destination 1940 or Strawberry Koi in my favourite blogs list), as I had a terrible job trying to find a background and pictures that I like and that would not 'copy' these inspirational guys.

Needless to say - it has changed, albeit only by a small amount, ie a new banner, background and music added. (You can shuffle this and have a listen to some of the tunes I have chosen, most of them harping back to my teens during the 80's!)

I have also added some favourite things lists down the right hand banner - If you know me well enough, you will understand the fascination with CSI and Forensics - I am still hankering after training to be a forensic criminologist, but at £4.5k for a 2 year full time college course its a big no go at the moment!

Anyway, I digress, back to the blog....I wish that I could come up with something a little more vintage, needless to say I am still on the case and any suggestions would be gratefully received.

In the meantime enjoy and let me know what you think - and guys - that does not mean by text, phone or email!!!!

A Trip to Tehidy

After last nights excitement at the concert, we decided to have a gentle morning before dropping Jannah-Beth back to Perranporth for her shift at the shop.

Tehidy Woods was decided upon, much to Fred's approval, so off we went, with the sun shining upon us....

We decided to follow the pink trail - a mile and 3/4 of circular walk, bypassing the golf course....

where we got a good shot of the club house.....

next I used the self timer on the camera for the first time, and after a false start we managed to get this lovely shot of us all.

then of JB and her big brother, with Fred of course!

I loved this old gnarly tree, and they pulled a face when I asked them to pose with it - all I got was her and that blooming blog! LOL

We arrived back at the car just after 1pm, and headed back home for some lunch and a relax in front of film, chosen by JB, before dropping her off back home at the shop for the start of her shift.

What a lovely weekend it's been so far.....

One Night of Queen

It's JB's Birthday on the 3rd of July, she'll be 15, and as she loves Queen we thought what better than to go see a tribute band.... Gary Mullen and The Works were playing One Night of Queen at the Hall for Cornwall, so we booked it!

We arrived inplenty of time, and found our seats....

Then sat back and enjoyed a first class show....

He had us all up on our feet dancing...

This guy is fantastic - if we closed our eyes it could have been Freddie Mercury on the stage!
