Another Day of Sightseeing

We started our day at Botallack, walking right the way down to the bottom most mine building…. yes that one down there on the picture below!

Karen, Dave and Paul went off for a plod whilst Jannah-Beth and I grabbed a coffee and rested after the walk up from Botallack.  We then followed on to the farm area.  Ours was a shorter walk as we could not see the others at all, and had no idea which direction they had taken.

Once we had all met up once more, we decided to head over to Minack, as it was only a short drive up the coast.

We love it here, and just sat in the amphitheatre and soaked up the rays of the sun for a couple of hours.

It was suddenly time for us to head home, and get ready for a night out in Perranporth with Mel and Dee.

We had a wonderful meal and plenty of laughs before heading home for a nightcap and rest.  Another full day was ahead of us tomorrow!

St Michaels Mount, Godrevey and Tehidy

Having checked the tide times for the causeway, and organising a hearty picnic for ourselves, we headed down to Marazion and the car park opposite the causeway.

We established that the tide was now low enough for us to be able to start walking across to St Michaels Mount.  Today was to be an exciting day for Karen, as she had always wanted to visit this lovely place, ever since her school trip to its twin, Mont St Michel, all those years ago.

We were very glad of our walking boots as we climbed the steep incline to the top, and half way up, the heat got to us, and Karen unzipped her trouser legs for the benefit of the shorts they left behind…. at this point, both Jannah-Beth and I were very envious in our heavy trousers and Jeans!

We had a good old mooch around the building atop the mount, and then made out way into the gardens, finding a quiet spot for us to eat our picnic in the sunshine.

Before leaving, we grabbed a cooling drink in the cafe, and then a quick mooch around the gardens shop, where Karen and Dave treated me to a lovely plant that I had been admiring as we had walked the gardens.

When we arrived we had spotted a boat trip around the island, and as the tide was now on its way back in, we decided that this would be fun. There is nothing better than a boat trip in the sunshine, so it was a lovely treat.

It was finally time to leave, and we decided to drive the coast road home, via Godrevey for a quick peek to see the seals.

There were only two or three seals  in the bay so we took a stroll and managed to get the obligatory timed photo of us all with the lighthouse behind us (Jamie would have been proud!)

From here, we went home for coffee and another slice of birthday cake, before taking Fred for a nice long walk in Tehidy, for being a good boy

He loved jogging alongside his big sister as she went on ahead.

What a fantastic day, but there is more to come tomorrow.

Karen and Dave arrive in Cornwall

We drove home from Dartmoor this afternoon and Paul went to collect his little sister, Jannah-Beth from Perranporth.

Shortly afterwards Karen, Paul’s sister, and Dave, his brother in law arrived from Birmingham for a long weekend with us.

We were so looking forward to having us all together for the first time in what seems like forever.

It was Karen’s birthday a couple of days before so, having thrown together a coffee and walnut cake the moment we got home from the first leg of our holiday, we were able to have a  nice slice of birthday surprise, and make plans for our day our tomorrow.

So lovely to be all together again!

Dartmoor Prison, Postbridge and Burrator Reservoir

It was a trip to prison today, however en-route we wanted to stop by Postbridge and the Clapper Bridges that we visited when we last went to Dartmoor in our old caravan.

Having got some lovely images of the clapper bridge we turned around to find some wild horses taking an interest in us, and Fred tried to make friends.

Then it was onwards to the prison.  It was full of interesting history, but we found it a little disappointing in terms of what you were shown etc.

Burrator Reservoir was next.  We parked up and had our picnics and then went on a long walk around the one side of the reservoir.

We suddenly realised that we had to walk back to the car, and we were already knackered, so turned back and headed on down to the Reservoir main for some pictures across the reservoir.  It gave the impression of a large Scottish Loch with the mountains rolling behind it in the distance.

On the drive back to the site we stopped off once more for a coffee and cake.  Unfortunately we missed out on the cake as they did not know what they had left due to the busy time we arrived, but the coffee was very welcome.

Another tiring day of much walking…… I ’d better lose weight after all of this exercise!
